Extremely exhausted and a sore arm.

October 31, 2009 3 comments

Thursday was when I got my H1N1 vaccine and I am feeling fine. Only a sore arm which is normal for me even when I get the normal seasonal flu shot. The more I use my arm the better it feels but, once home from work and not so much movement, then it starts to get very stiff and sore. It doesn’t help that I gave my arm (right were I got the shot) a good whack on the holy crap handle bar in my Jeep while crawling out backwards yesterday. 😥

This week at work was insane. We are getting more and more work everyday and without being able to have the extra person on Mondays to help with the weekend workload, we are very behind come Tuesdays, then each day there is more added that is more than the usually amount. We are so overworked and at the end of the day yesterday, extrememly exhausted. I was way to tired to workout last night and even to make dinner for my family. It was a fend for yourself night. My youngest DD was at her friends and they were having a Halloween party so I know she most likely had chips, pop, and candy for dinner. My son ended up coming home because his friends family are all sick so I order Wor Wonton soup from the chinese restaurant for the 4 of us for dinner. Delish and filling!

Thought I would see a gain on the scale this morning from all the salty soy sauce I put in the broth but no. I saw a surprising 159 lbs on the scale. 😯  159! Woo hooo!  I hope I am in the 150’s  to stay! Another of couple of days should tell. I even had a couple of small chocolate treats from co-workers yesterday.

I think it helps that I don’t stress over my weight loss. Yes, I really want and need to lose the weight, but, I no longer completely deny myself everything. The chocolate treats for example. I had a small one with each healthy meal I ate which helped to keep the sugar in the chocolate from raising blood sugar to fast or to much. Plus, I only  have a treat this way once in a while, not on a regular basis. So I can still enjoy a treat without the harm to my body. I have found that enjoying treats once in a while this way helps to keep my from having mega cravings which lead to junk food binges. As an added benefit to all my healthy eating, I can truely leave it when it comes to treats. I don’t crave them anymore and can do without easily.

Anyone over do it with the treats so far? Is it hard for you to stay away? How about when the kids bring it home tonight?

H1N1 vaccine?

October 29, 2009 3 comments

Have you guys got your vaccines? I did today. I work at a hospital and we are very incouraged to get the vaccine. Work offered it early this week and my friend and I decided to wait until today to see how the other hospital workers reacted to the vaccine. Generally it was just a sore arm. So today my friend and I got ours.

I was really undecided all this time about whether or not to get the vaccine as it is so new but, on the other hand, I am potentially around those who are sick with H1N1 in the hospital and I am scared to bring it home to my kids. I do know they can still contract it at school but, I am trying to do my part in preventing it. So far I feel fine with a mildly sore arm which is no different than when I get the regular seasonal flu shot.

Week 5 day 2 done last night. I have no idea how long my running segments were but wow, they sure were long. I handled them well though and know that I am that much closer to being able to run the whole 5km straight. I am excited to do a duathon in the spring. I am still running outside even though it is gently snowing. It melts when it hits the ground and it isn’t too cold yet especially when I get all heated up from running.

Now I am logging out to go and catch up on each of your blogs ( I don’t get alot of time on the evenings of the days I work). If you have a chance, check out my store site at  Fun for All .  My daughters and I are working on it together and so far has products designed by my youngest DD.

national cranky co-worker day!

October 27, 2009 6 comments

Wow, did someone pee in my wheaties today! I am just in the most miserable mood ever. To top off all the crap that has been happening these past couple of days, I went to put my music back onto my ipod and itunes can’t FIND my music files that are in the library. I had to go through and re-locate each song file for the itunes library. Like I don’t have more important things to be spending my time doing!

When I got to work my friend mentioned that she had heard on the radio that it was national cranky c0-worker day. I can say whoever decided this was SO totally right. Both my friend and I were super mega cranky at work and bitching and venting about everything! There were a lot of people in the building today that just seemed miserable and moody about everything. Wow!

So now finally my Nike + ipod is figured out and working fine and all my music back on my beloved ipod. All set to go out for a run tonight. I will have to get my boy to bike while I run as my running partner (youngest DD) has gone swimming with her friend. I don’t like to go in the dark alone, even with my dog.

How was everyone else today? Moody? Crabby? Fit into the national cranky co-worker category?

The sky is falling…

Why is it that shit all happens at once?

Not only the problem with my left thumb/ipod but, now my dryer is broken! Is doesn’t throw heat! Imagine having a family of 5 and no dryer. I got to spend a most horrific wonderful evening running back and forth to the laundry mat with washed but wet clothes. Highway robbery! The prices!! I was on hold for 40 mins with the dryer people only to find out the dryer technician with phone me at work today to  schedule an appointment. Knowing my luck, I will be out of the room when he calls and won’t be able to call him back due to service calls and will have to sit on the phone tonight for another torturous 40 mins.

Anyways, wish me luck in catching his call. I have to scee-daddle off to work. Heavy work day today and not enough sleep last night. What a wonderful combo!

Very upset but, my own fault!

October 26, 2009 2 comments

First off I will begin by giving my new goals for the week.

  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily
  • Run 3 times per week
  • Do week 5 of C25K
  • Healthy eating without junk food binges

Last week goals were done including finally finishing week 4 of C25K.

Now why I am upset? Because I am an idiot. When I am done with a workout with my nike + ipod, I need to press the menu button to get a list of options, one of which is to end workout. Well today, no matter how much I tried, I didn’t get the list. Then my menu button pop me back to the regular ipod lists and I of course lost my workout data. I was very upset as I very much enjoy seeing my pace ect. and logging my workouts on the Nike website. So I tried to re-inact the workout ending and I just could not get the menu button to pop up the list so I always lost my data. I tried restoringmy ipod through itunes, reset my ipod ect and lost all my previous workout data, music, and podcasts and pictures only to find out that it was my stupid left hand thumb causing all the trouble. You see, I would always press the menu button with my left thumb and before the list could pop up, the volume bar would show up then back. So this over-rode the menu list. So an hour worth of cussing and tears, my daughter figured out it was my left thumb. So at the expense of all my data, pictures, podcasts and music, I learned to always use my right thumb!!

What Fall?

October 23, 2009 4 comments

Autumn is my favorite time of year because of all the beautiful colors. I even enjoy walking or running and having the leaves fall off of the trees around me. I love the crunching sounds the leaves make while I run through them. And once in a while, I will still stop to pick up that perfect looking pine cone.

This year however, we were ripped off of our autumn. The leaves turned yellow while it was still summer and with a weeks worth of high winds, they were all blown off the trees. Then the snow came at the start of October instead of at the end like a normal year. So the trees are all bare and the leaves all wet from the snow and no crunching sounds to be heard while out running. Each day is overcast and cold and even though the snow has for now melted, it is freezing and at a constant chance for more snow. I am still running outside right now as I want to prolong my boring treadmill for as long as possible.

Since there are no fall colors outdoors for me to enjoy, I brought some indoors:

Fall bouquet

This reminds me that I should pull out my halloween decorations for the house. I haven’t decorated in a couple of years because I keep forgetting and the days fly by so fast. I am thinking I should dress up for halloween for work this year. I haven’t done that since the kids were little and it sure would make my youngest one happy. Plus, it will add a little fun to the work day.

Do you guys dress up for Halloween for work? Or for trick or treating with the kids?

Time for another “Hot 100” challenge update!

October 22, 2009 4 comments

Here are my goals for Steve’s  “Hot 100-Going Out with a Bang” challenge.

  1. Finish the C25K program
  2. Run 5k twice per week (or more) once done the program
  3. Lose 10 lbs — starting weight 168 lbs

So far I have been doing great with my healthy eating with only two or three slip ups. I seem to be having trouble keeping my water intake up where I want and need it to be. I had managed to lose 4 1/2 so far but, weighing in this morning showed a two pound gain. I believe it to be my lack of water especially since I have picked up my running again. I have also had a couple of nights in a row now where I was eating after 7-8 pm which I know is a no, no.

Basically I am feeling great and enjoying eating healthy without any cravings for crappy foods. I am feeling awesome having returned to my running and have one more day of C25K week 4 before moving on to week 5.  What will that bring?!  LOL.

How is everyone else doing with there challenges? Managing? Struggling? Making progress? I would love to hear.

On another note, I found out that my odometer is in KMs since I live in Canada so I managed to calibrate my Nike + Ipod yesterday. I think it was pretty right on already. So I’m good to go!
